2018 LaGrit F. “Sam” Morris Student Scholarship Winner Tuo Zhao

                             

 

 

 

 

 

Program: Novel Strut-and-Tie Models for Reinforced Concrete Structures using Multi-material Topology Optimization Approach

Bio: Tuo Zhao is currently a doctoral candidate in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Dalian University of Technology, and his master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His major research interests are in nonlinear and multi-material topology optimization, plasticity analysis, multiscale metamaterials, and advanced manufacturing (3D/4D printing). He is the winner of the 2017 Georgia ACI LaGrit F. “Sam” Morris Student Scholarship.

2018 Robert H. Kulman Student Scholarship Winner Qingxu (Bill) Jin

Program: TiO2 Nanoparticles-Modified Coating on Concrete Infrastructure for Air-Purification and Self-Cleaning

Bio: Qingxu (Bill) Jin is currently a doctoral candidate in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He earned his dual master's degrees in Civil Engineering and in Natural Resources and Environment from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He was a practice structural engineer in Hong Kong and served as the lead engineer for the structure and construction project of the MGM Hotel and Casino in Cotai, Macau. He developed his interest in resilient, reliable, smart and sustainable (R2S2) infrastructure systems through his research experience and industry training. He is the finalist of National ACI Foundation Student Fellowship and the winner of 2018 Georgia ACI Robert H. Kulman Student Scholarship.

The Georgia Chapter ACI hosts monthly luncheon meetings throughout the year. Luncheons are an opportunity to network with your peers, earn Professional Development Hours and further your industry knowledge.
